Corrections are genuinely welcome — the grouping is automated and it does get things wrong.
Reporting a data problem
The most useful reports are about spelling groups: two names merged that should be separate, or two that should be merged and are not. These go into a curated override list and are applied the next time the data is regenerated.
A report is easiest to act on when it includes:
- The name page it concerns, by link.
- What is wrong — which spellings are grouped incorrectly.
- How you pronounce each of them, if that is the point of disagreement.
What cannot be changed
The underlying counts come from the Social Security Administration and are not editable here. If a name is missing entirely, the likeliest reason is the SSA’s five-child threshold, described on the methodology page. Requests to remove a name from the dataset cannot be honoured — it is aggregate public statistics about names, not about people, and contains no personal information.
